Do you like the versatility of using baking mix (aka Bisquick) but don’t want to pay the extra for the store bought mix? You can make your own!
Baking mix is a frugal way to stretch meals and it even made our list of the top 8 frugal cooking ingredients. Plus, when you make it yourself, you know there won’t be any monoglycerides or any other ingredients you don’t want to be eating!
What can you make with baking mix?

For biscuits: Combine 2 1/4 cups baking mix and 2/3 cup of milk. Bake at 450 degrees for 8 minutes.

For pancakes: Combine 2 cups baking mix, 2 eggs, and 1 cup of milk.

For waffles: Combine 2 cups of baking mix, 1 egg, 1 and 1/4 cups of milk, and 2 Tbs. vegetable oil.

Recipe: Homemade Baking Mix

Ingredients:
10 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups shortening
1/3 cup baking powder
1/4 cup sugar (you can substitute Splenda or stevia if you want, but refer to their website for substitution tips first)
1 tablespoon salt

Directions:
1. Combine dry ingredients
2. Add shortening and stir
3. Stores in a tightly closed container in the refrigerator for 5-6 weeks or freeze.

Alternative Recipe: Sugar-Free Baking Mix

Or if you prefer not to use sugar in your cooking, like me, you can try these ingredients and follow the same directions:
8 cups flour
1 1/4 cup nonfat dry milk
1/4 cup baking powder
1 tablespoon salt
2 cups shortening
