Organizing Under the Bathroom Sink
While making my Summer Projects List, I added “clean under the bathroom sink” to the list. It hasn’t been done in a long time and was definitely overdue. When you have to push things back to fit in a new item, it’s time to purge!
I made half of the products under the sink disappear. There were many duplicates: 2 mousses, 2 curling sprays, 4 hairsprays (2 pump, 2 aerosol)… They were piled behind other things and I didn’t even know they were there!
I had to exercise some serious Product Control (only 1 of each thing open and in use; put the rest in the pantry). Many things had to be thrown away because they were opened and really old. Some things I had never seen before (cross my heart) and I don’t know where they came from. Some items had homes in other places and were put back.
Then, flashlight in hand, I discovered the secret compartment: There is an 8” gap between the cabinet and the wall where items can drop off and roll underneath, which I never knew until yesterday! Covered in dust bunnies, pony tail holders, bobby pins, safety pins, and spiderwebs, it was DISGUSTING. Oh – and I found my missing items! Occasionally my hair products would disappear from the bathroom, never to be found again. Now they’re back, because they had fallen into the secret compartment. There were also things under there that were from the previous inhabitants. Now that illuminates a project long overdue!
I forgot to take pictures, and wish I had because it was a spectacular transformation.
Challenge: Clean under your bathroom sink today (you may find things you never know you had)!

When I moved last year, I found so many bathroom products that I didn’t even know that I had, so I put them all in one place, all in one basket. I didn’t have to buy lotion for almost a whole year. It was nuts. I try to keep up on it now.

It’s amazing how that stuff multipies. It looks great!

I love a good clutter purge. I just wish I could become anorexic instead of bulemic when it comes to my clutter. =)

I found you through MommyFest. I love your blog. We have moved so many times that I’m able to continually thin out those places like under the bathroom sink. So glad to meet you.

The cabinet under our sink has gotten way out of hand. Your post has inspired me to put this at the top of my weekend cleaning list!

Thanks for the compliments everyone, and glad I could be motivational in a small way! I consider every small step as an important victory towards being in control of our environments, don’t you agree?
@Amber – I’ve been in that situation before!
@Audrey & insanity – It’s nice to meet you both. Welcome!
@Lazy – Thanks, have that baby already! *hug*

SOmehow I missed this blog entry. I found a great product that has helped me keep my under the sink “black hole” organized. I bought plastic coated wire baskets that are mounted on tracks. The basket pulls out making it so easy to reach my products.
